    FAQs

      What is RD WebServices?

Thincast RD WebServices is a collection of tools containing following products: RD Gateway, RD WebAccess, RD WebClient and RD AdvancedSecurity (Add-on). More information can be found here.

      Is it available for Linux?

Yes, Linux (Debian and Ubuntu) is supported as host system. More information can be found in the documentation.

      Which browsers are supported?

We are working hard to support all major browser engines. At this time Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox are supported. Please make sure that your browser is up to date. With mobile browsers you will have a limited experience.

Is the communication secure and encrypted?

Yes, absolutely. All communication between the services is securely encrypted using HTTPS. The browser communicates with RD WebServices over HTTPS, and the web app (RD WebClient) connects back to RD WebServices through a secure WebSocket, which is also encrypted using SSL.

      Are custom SSL certificates required?

Not unless you want to. By default a self signed certificate will be generated and used. You can also replace this with any official SSL certificate or even use the built-in Let's Encrypt support that takes away the hassle of renewals by automating the process.

How can I set it up and preconfigure remote sessions and apps?

Administrators will continue using RD WebAccess to configure Remote Applications and DesktopSessions for users/groups. The legacy RD WebAccess frontend, which previously only allowed .rdp file downloads, is still supported. However, with RD WebClient installed, all applications and desktops configured in RD WebAccess (separate license required) are now available via the new RD WebPortal.

Is a separate license for RD WebAccess required?

Our browser-based remote desktop web client (RD WebClient) does not require an additional license for RD WebAccess. Just open your browser, log in to your remote machine and start working remotely within a browser. Basically it is working similiar to a remote desktop client like Thincast Client or Microsoft Remote Desktop Client (mstsc.exe) but without the hassle to install anything.

The new RD WebPortal requires an additional license for RD WebAccess, which will allow you to view, launch and work with pre-configured (through RD WebAccess) remote applications and desktops directly in your browser.

      Are there any bundles available?
